Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is the U.S. government’s principal agency for protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services, especially for those who are least able to help themselves. This department includes more than 300 programs, a few of which are Medicare, Medicaid, medical research, assuring food and drug safety, and preventing outbreaks of infectious disease. There are three key operating divisions involved with organ donation and transplantation:
- Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
- Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)
- Advisory Committee on Organ Transplantation (ACOT)
