Sara Brooks, Miss Louisiana USA 2010, has joined forces with the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA) to inform the community about organ and tissue donation. While one donor can save up to nine lives and enhance the lives of over 50 people, there remains a critical shortage.
Sara became aware of the tremendous gift that donation is when a family member received a bone marrow transplant. They are now in remission and have been for six years. She feels privileged to have the opportunity to spread the word to the many people of this great state. Sara is pleased to join LOPA to increase the public's knowledge of the critical need for organ and tissue donors.
"Organ and tissue transplantation is the only surgical procedure that requires involvement from the general public. It means that someone, while deep in the throes of grief, will be making a decision about organ and tissue donation. I want to ensure that people are making informed decisions about donation and then sharing that decision with their families," said Sara Brooks, Miss Louisiana USA 2010.
