Christopher Robin Sherlock Holmes
We lost our oldest son, Chris, 2 years ago.
In the past 2 years, we have received cards from LOPA with the same statement, “There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone the light remains.” I’ve thought about that a lot in these two years. To a Mom, a child is always our light in life. But, Chris was also that to the people he met and all the family he left behind.
Chris’s Memorial Service was themed surrounding the topic of light. During a part of the service, there was a time where the attendees could share their experiences with Chris. Many chose to speak of their memories of him, and what a truly good friend he was. What astounded us most was the number of children who chose to stand up and speak about what “Mr. Chris” had meant to them, and the impact he had on their lives.
Even in his youth, Chris was a very loving child. As he aged, he worked more and more with those younger than himself. He was always very patient and kind. Even animals seemed to love him! He was so gentle with them. Chris had no greater joy in his life than his daughter, Destiny. He loved to share life with her. Every weekend they were out adventuring. He wanted her to experience everything. Chris also shared his belief and love of God with her.
As an adult, Chris always wished he could do more for those in need. He was always ready to help in whatever way he could. Sometimes with a smile, an act of kindness, a listening ear, a hug, a shoulder to cry on, or a shared thought about the love of God. He regularly gave blood at the LifeShare Blood Center. It was no surprise to us when we found out at the hospital after Chris died, that he was a registered donor. He had checked every box! That was our Chris!! He was a light in this world to others, and even in death, his light is still shining.
