Kary D. Sylvia

Hero, son, father, fiance.

This is extremely difficult however it’s a story very near and dear to my heart. On August 21, 2020 my son was playing basketball with his children and suddenly collapsed. There were no drugs involved and no previous health conditions.

As I arrived to greet my daughter in law and check on my son. I kept asking please let me tell my son his dad is here. They put me in a room and well you know what happened next so I'll spare the details.

Kary D. Sylvia was just 35 and planning his wedding with his fiancé Michelle. My son was all about his family, friends and sports. He played semi-pro football, basketball and loved life. You have to understand, Kary’s mom passed away when he was just 18 months old from a drunk driver and I was awarded custody at 18 years old.

Kary and I took challenges head on and I held nothing from him. Kary was loved by so many people and his passing left me feeling worthless and empty. My son is helping me through this process, because being the selfless person he was, he wanted every viable organ used to save a life. When I’m down and out with sadness I think of how many people are living and seeing because of my son, and it gets me through a brief moment.

I keep thinking how much my son was not only a great ball player, son and father, but most of all my hero.
