Skyler Delaney
Our hero, Skyler Delaney, is now a hero not only to us, but to some very special people. Skyler was murdered on May 4th, 2023 at the age of 18, and became a donor hero on May 7th. Skyler made the decision to become a donor at an early age. He always wanted to make a difference in people's lives. We never thought his wish would be fulfilled so soon.
Skyler's family and friends want others to know his story. Although words fall short in reflecting just how special of a young man Skyler was, this is an attempt to give a small glimpse into his personality and the impact he had on the people who met him. In the time we had, we were blessed to have him here with us.
Our hero was a responsible, hard-working young man and was a role model. He took great pride in helping to care for his younger brother and sister. He loved helping his mother with household necessities when he was able. Skyler was a senior at Pineville High School. He worked 2 jobs in order to help out and he was saving his money to buy his own vehicle, every young man's dream.
A few examples to show Skyler's character:
He was chosen as Student of the Year when he was in junior high.
He also was an outstanding member of the JAG program.
He had the honor of speaking to the Louisiana legislature on behalf of the JAG program to gain continued support.
He met with the governor, John Bel Edwards, that awarded him a full ride scholarship for college.
He set his goals high even when things were not like he planned. He kept his eye on his future success.
If you were around Skyler you were surrounded with joy and laughter. His smile was contagious. He always made others feel better about themselves by complimenting them, giving the best hugs, the most love, and the funniest of jokes. He loved goofing around and doing funny videos. Skyler always saw the best in others, never focusing on the negative.
Next to his family and friends was his second love, his shoes and his fits (clothes). He loved Jordans (he had numerous colors and styles), along with Dunks, Vans, and a few Chucks. His fits (clothes) always had the tags still on them. That was his style. It was a running joke with his Mawmaw and Great Aunts who were attempting to cut the tags off. He would say, "I'm gonna put that fit on and look clean!"
Our hope is that this has given you a small snapshot into the life of our Skyler Jayden, the love he had for others and the love we have for him. We pray for each recipient, for their health, their family, and their future impact on the world.
Our desire is to meet these recipients someday. They carry a precious part of our Sky in them. Seeing his gift bringing life and change to others is a sacred gift to us. Our hearts are battered and broken. Our lives are forever changed. However, we rejoice and thank God that he has provided life for others. Even in death Sky gave! We stand on the hope that one day we will be united with our precious Skyler Jayden Delaney. Until then we carry on and carry you Skyman!!!
